Opera Software announced that Opera Mobile 9.5 would be coming soon and would be shown at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona. I had a chance to visit the Opera Software booth and spoke with a product manager who ran through this latest mobile browser on a Sony Ericsson UIQ device. You can see some of the features of Opera Mobile 9.5 in action in the following video.
The HTC Advantage I have been using for several months comes with Opera Mobile 8.5 preloaded in the ROM and is actually the selected default browser on the device. Opera Mobile 8.5 makes the device much more useful for me since I find Internet Explorer Mobile to be a weak mobile browser. However, there are still a few websites I need to visit that Opera Mobile 8.5 doesn’t fully support and I am hoping that Opera Mobile 9.5 provides this needed functionality and from the press release and seeing it in action I think this just may be the browser I need.
Opera Mobile 9.5 has been improved with new zooming and panning capabilities, faster page loading, Flash Lite 3 support (up to OEMs and operators), and Opera Widget capable. Other features include tabbed browsing, landscape support, call phone number from a web page, send a link as a text message, and much more. The public beta should be available soon and I can’t wait to try it out.
Ericsson launched the Ericsson Multimedia Communication Suite (MCS) - bringing to consumers popular services they already enjoy on the Internet in a new and enhanced mobile way. The intuitive user interface will be integrated into selected new Sony Ericsson devices such as the W760.
With the Ericsson MCS, mobile operators will be able to offer their customers a suite of attractive services. Consumers will be able to access new services from the address book - with an interface including rich presence functionality such as avatars, photos and personal free text. The solution also keeps track of friends and their applications so consumers will always see who is available for different applications. The user has full control over what type of information is available.
Ericsson MCS will initially be available for selected Sony Ericsson feature phones. In Barcelona the MCS solution is demonstrated live on popular Sony Ericsson phones. The MCS is built on IMS architecture and is aligned with the industry initiative Rich Communication Suite (RCS) that aims for broad industry interoperability and acceptance by utilizing standardized IMS service features.

I always thought the Sony Ericsson W910 is a special handset. As a matter of fact, I've called it the best non-smart musicphone for couple of times.
So I was not that surprised to learn that GSMA honored it with the Best Handset 2008 award. We're not sure whether judges like the shake control, auto-rotate feature, 3D Java games or HSDPA — or everything that combined — it's just the fact that the Swedish-Japanese handset maker has one of the best on-the-go entertainment devices in its portfolio. PRESS RELEASE - Sony Ericsson is delighted to announce that its W910 Walkman phone has been awarded Best Handset at the GSM Association's 13th Global Mobile Awards 2008.
Launched last year, the W910 Walkman phone is designed for entertainment; whether music, 3D games, video, or high-speed Web access. It's also geared to let consumers choose their music just the way they want it. Applications such as Shake control enable them to flick the phone to control games or skip and shuffle between music tracks while SenseMeTM lets them discover music to match their mood and tempo. This latest Walkman phone promises to get the most out of consumers' music with superior clear audio sound, storage for 8,000 songs, and Walkman on Top experience that allows users to control all of their music from the outside of their phone.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 Features and Specifications
Sony Ericsson announced the release of its new Xperia X1 arc slider phone on February 10, 2008. The handset belongs to the company’s premium class of phones. The device promises to provide users with a unique cell phone convergence experience.
The Xperia beautifully converges mobile web communication technology with multimedia entertainment. It sports a 3 inches wide video graphics array (VGA) touch screen display that shows beautiful images with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.
The Xperia lets the users explore it various functions in a unique manner. The handset’s front panel features a touch sensitive full QWERTY keyboard and a 4-way navigation key with optical joystick. The device has well spaced keys that make it much convenient to type with it. The phone is equipped with a global positioning system (GPS) receiver that lets one locate her or his exact position in a city.
The Xperia is equipped with a 3.2 mega pixel camera with auto focus. The device operates on a Windows Mobile operating system. It comes with 400 MB of built in memory that can be expanded further by using a microSD memory card. It has support for GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA 850/1700/1900/2100 MHz and UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA 900/1700/1900/2100 MHz networks.

Dee Dutta, Sony Ericsson’s Head of Marketing said that the launch of Xperia X1 places the company at the forefront of mobile convergence. The company’s Head of Portfolio & Propositions Rikko Sakaguchi said that their aim was to deliver a seamless blend of multimedia entertainment with mobile web technology within a unique design.
The Xperia X1 comes in a quality metal finish. The handset’s arc design provides it a solid feel. The device comes in black and silver colors. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 will be widely available in markets from the last quarter of 2008 onwards.
