Nokia who used to be the greenest company in the land has gone from first place to ninth place according to a study preformed by Greenpeace. A mobile phone user was instructed to go into a shop and ask that their model be taken in for recycling, but shop keepers in Argentina, Philippines, Thailand, Russia and India had no clue about Nokia’s take back program and worst of all information about the program wasn’t even available in the local languages. Motorola fell due to similar reasons and the surprise that no one was expecting, Sony Ericsson took the spot for number 1.
That’s right, Nokia’s arch rival took number 1.

It’s been one helluva long wait for Verizon customers, but it turns out that our favorite (soon to be open) network operator has made the Verizon XV6800 available to customers through online and phone orders. Verizon barely made good by our November launch expectations.
Howard Forums users are reporting that $249 (after rebates and 2-year contract) will net you a Verizon XV6800 of your very own. The box will come packed with the device (of course), wall charger, USB cable, extra stylus, and carrying pouch - as was confirmed by HoFo user mclass555 (who was good enough to snap a pic of the handset).
Hit up a Verizon rep if you’re still interested in getting your hands on a handset that AT&T and Sprint have been offering for a good while.

Verizon and NHL has announced the launch of NHL game video alerts, enabling hockey fans to receive video messages of game highlights on their mobile phones, moments after they happen on the ice.

In case you’re a hockey fan willing to sign-up for the service, you should know Verizon will be sending you up to four 15-second video alerts per night after each period for every game. Alongside the video, you will also receive the accompanying audio that “highlights key goals and remarkable plays.”
And the price? In order to stay on top of the NHL game highlights, you’ll have to pour out additional $2.99 per month/per team on top of your existing monthly bill… Full release follows after the break.
PRESS RELEASE - In an exclusive and a first for all professional sports leagues, Verizon Wireless, the leading wireless company with the nation’s most reliable wireless voice and data network, and the National Hockey League (NHL) today announced the launch of NHL game video alerts, enabling hockey fans to receive video messages of game highlights on their mobile phones, moments after they happen on the ice.
Verizon Wireless customers who sign up for the game highlights video alerts package can stay on top of their favorite team’s on-ice performance through 15-second mobile video alerts with accompanying audio that highlight key goals and remarkable plays. Mobile video alerts are sent after each period — including overtime — for every game, allowing fans to stay informed throughout the competition. Hockey fans will receive a maximum of four video alerts in one night.
Customers can purchase the NHL game highlights video alerts package for $2.99 per month/per team by going to http://www.verizonwireless.com/nhl and clicking on the Alerts tab. Verizon Wireless customers can also sign up via text message by sending the keyword representing the team of their choice (ex. DUCKS or SENATORS) to the short code 7825 (PUCK).
“The immediacy with which we receive information has grown significantly thanks in part to the introduction of mobile phones and the Internet,” said Keith Ritter, President, NHL Interactive CyberEnterprises. “Teaming with Verizon Wireless to offer mobile video alerts fulfills a desire for immediate information by bringing the game to our fans through a device they are already using.”
Ryan Hughes, vice president of digital media programming for Verizon, said, “The immediacy of mobile makes it a perfect partner for sporting events like NHL games — our customers get to stay connected to the entertainment they love, but with the freedom and flexibility of mobility. Wireless is the driver that enables fans to keep connected to their favorite teams and players.”
For more information on NHL mobile video alerts go to http://www.verizonwireless.com/nhl or http://www.nhl.com. For more information on Verizon Wireless products and services, visit a Verizon Wireless Communications Store, call 1-800-2 JOIN IN or visit http://www.verizonwireless.com.

In terms of real-world applicability, this might be the most useful iPhone application to date. So, just what is this uber-useful third-party iPhone app? Well, it’s called “iLevel,” and it is, well, a level.
iLevel makes use of the iPhone’s integrated accelerometers to function as a digital level for all your picture-aligning, table-building, driveway-leveling needs. Ok, you probably wouldn’t use your iPhone to help level your new concrete driveway, but you could if you wanted to…
Grab iLevel from the iApp-a-day source in your Installer.app. What, you still haven’t installed it yet? What are you waiting for? Go here, run Installer.app, then install the iApp-a-day from the “Source” list, and then find and install iLevel. What are you waiting for? That picture ain’t gonna straighten itself, now is it?

Displaytech, announced today it is supplying product to 13 companies that are developing ultra small image projectors that can be either embedded in or attached as an accessory to personal consumer electronics. The 13 companies include well known projection optics companies and major consumer electronic companies, who sell and manufacture Cell Phones, PDAs, Digital Cameras, Stand Alone Video Projectors and Personal Media Players. The companies are located in Asia, Europe and the US.
The proprietary Displaytech Ferroelectric-LCOS (FLCOS) microdisplays have been selected by these companies to develop ultra small projectors because of their unique characteristics like: small size, only 11.5mm in height; low power, less than 100mW for the FLCOS panel and integrated display controller; and efficient use of LEDs as the light source, thus avoiding the difficult problem of image speckle that comes when lasers are used as a light source. Prototype projectors small enough to be embedded into cell phones are being shown to major consumer electronic companies. Displaytech expects a number of ultra small projectors containing its FLCOS panels to be demonstrated at CES in January 2008. Ultra small projectors will be demonstrated with image resolutions of VGA and SVGA.
